HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball program recently completed a series of upgrades to the Cougar Field clubhouse.
The renovations included new lockers for the players and coaches, replacing the interior clubhouse doors, resurfacing the floor, painting the walls and creating a media center in the locker room. In addition, the training room and video room received a series of upgrades.
The new lockers, installed by S&G Woodworks in Alabama, were made possible solely by donations from former players and it took just 10 days to raise the money needed for the 40 new lockers. To recognize their contributions to the project, the former players that made a donation were honored with a nameplate above a locker with their name and the years they played baseball at UH. On the four lockers in the coaches' locker room, the names of the four coaches that made a significant contribution to the program are featured on the nameplates. Those coaches include Lovette Hill, Rolan Walton, Bragg Stockton and Rayner Noble.
Included in the locker room is a state-of-the-art media center, featuring a 60-inch television, a 32-inch television, a 26-inch television, Nintendo, XBox and PS3. All three TVs are also equipped with DirecTV.
The interior hallways of the clubhouse have been covered with accomplishment boards, highlighting the successes of the Houston baseball program. Quattro Graphics in Richardson, Texas, was responsible for the boards and all graphics in the clubhouse.
In addition to the upgrades in the locker room, custom cabinets were installed in the training room and video room. The training room also received a new refrigerator and training table, while a desk and computer were installed in the video room.
Improvements were not limited to the interior. The outdoor batting cages located down the third base line were torn down and replaced with three pitching mounds. The area can also serve as a short-game practice facility. Field turf, lights and a phone to the Cougar dugout were also installed. In addition the fence down the baseline was lowered to 4 feet tall.
