HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team was shutout, 9-0, in its rematch with the Sam Houston State Bearkats Tuesday night at Don Sanders Field.
With the loss, Houston (17-18; 4-2 C-USA) falls to 1-1 this season against the Bearkats after winning the first meeting 9-3 on March 15 at Cougar Field.
The Cougars gave up nine runs on 11 hits as junior Codey Morehouse fell to 2-5 on the mound after going 1.1 innings in his eighth start. Morehouse gave up four runs on five hits with one strikeout.
UH held Sam Houston State scoreless in their first at bat but the Bearkats capitalized on four hits and a walk in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead against the Cougars.
Sam Houston State pushed its lead 7-0 with Chris Andreas' lead off home run and two RBI singles from Daniel Nottebart and Kyle Singleton in the fifth inning.
An eighth Bearkat run came in the sixth inning when Greg Olson scored on Andreas' RBI double to right centerfield. Ryan Mooney would then give Sam Houston State their final run total of the game with a home run to left field in the eighth inning.
