Baseball Falls to Texas A&M, 12-3

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team dropped a mid-week contest to Texas A&M, 12-3, Tuesday night at Cougar Field.
Blake Kelso and Austin Gracey each had two hits on the night and Ryan Still scored two runs with an RBI.
With the loss, Houston falls to 20-26 on the season.
The two teams played two-and-a-half scoreless innings when Still scored on Kelso's single to second base after reaching base on a walk, giving Houston the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Aggies, however, would answer in the top of the fourth, scoring a run off Joe Patterson's single up the middle.
The score remained tied until the sixth inning when Chase Dempsay came into the game in pitching relief with two runners on base. He would walk the first batter he faced, setting up an Adam Smith grand slam over the left field fence, giving the Aggies the 5-1 lead.
Texas A&M then added a run in the seventh inning, which the Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning. Still reached base on a fielder's choice before scoring on the next at bat, a Kelso triple to right-center field.
The Aggies added two runs to their total in the eighth and Houston scored their final run of the contest in the bottom of the inning when Still plated M.P. Cokinos on a bases loaded walk.
The game closed with Texas A&M scoring three runs in the top of the ninth.
On the mound, Barry Laird earned his second start this season, going five innings. He gave up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Dempsay, Tanner Shiflett, Ty Stuckey and James Conlee all saw action in relief.
UP NEXT
Houston continues its home stand against Marshall, Friday through Sunday. First pitch for the first two games of the series is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the finale will start at 11 a.m. The Cougars will then host Rice on May 18 for the 2010 home finale at 6:30 p.m. It is also the final game of the Silver Glove Series.
