HOUSTON - Tulane took advantage of a wild pitch and Anthony Scelfo's RBI-single to break a tie with two runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 7-5 win over the 19th-ranked University of Houston baseball team Saturday during the middle game of a Conference USA series Saturday night at Cougar Field.
In the sixth inning, Andrew Rodgers reached on an infield single and moved into scoring position when Drew Allain was walked. Scelfo went 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs and a pair of RBIs to lead a Tulane offense, which outhit the Cougars 10-6. Aja Barto added two RBIs in the win.
UH reliever Barrett Bruce saw his four-game winning streak come to an end and fell to 4-1 after giving up two runs off two hits and a walk in one inning.

The Cougars grabbed the first lead in the first inning. Blake Kelso led off with a single to center field and moved to second following Jake Stewart's walk. Both runners advanced on a double steal, and Ryan Lormand's sacrifice fly to center field allowed Kelso to score for a 1-0 Houston lead.
Tulane grabbed the lead in the third inning with four runs off three hits. Barto started the scoring with a two-run double down the left-field line, and Scelfo followed with a triple to right center. Seth Henry then lifted a sacrifice fly into left field for a 4-1 Tulane lead.
The Cougars knotted the game in the bottom of the frame, thanks to four hits and two walks. Stewart drew a two-out walk and moved into scoring position following Pounds' infield single. After Ryan Lormand's infield single loaded the bases, Felix Fanaselle drew a walk to force Stewart home. Murphy then smashed a two-run single through the right side to plate Pounds and Lormand and tie the game at 4-4.
UH regained the lead with a run off a hit in the fourth. Austin Goolsby led off with a double down the left-field line and moved to third after a walk to Zak Presley and Kelso was hit by a pitch. With one out, Pounds lifted a high fly ball that was caught in foul territory by Tulane first baseman Sam Honeck, allowing Goolsby to race in from third base for a 5-4 UH lead.
The Green Wave tied the game in the next half inning when Jared Dyer's sacrifice fly to right field scored Scelfo.
