METAIRIE, La. - University of Houston freshman righthander John Touchton scattered three runs off seven hits in 6.1 innings to help lead the Cougar Baseball team to a 6-4 win Sunday during the finale of a Conference USA series at Zephyr Field.
Touchton allowed only one run through the first six innings, retiring 10 of 12 batters during one stretch. With the win, the Houston native and Kingwood High product improved to 4-3.
The Cougars completed their first sweep of Tulane in Louisiana and improved to 22-17 overall, 9-3 in C-USA games, and grabbed sole possession of second place in the league. Tulane fell to 29-13 overall and 8-7 in C-USA games.
Sophomore outfielder Jimmy Cesario went 2-for-5 with a run and RBI to extend his hitting streak to a career- and UH-season-best 17 games. It tied as the fifth-longest hitting streak in school history and was the longest since catcher Rob Johnson ended the 2004 season on a 17-game streak.
Junior infielder Ryan Lormand went 3-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base, while sophomore DH Felix Fanaselle batted 2-for-4 with two runs.
Tulane starter Brandon Gomes collected the loss and fell to 5-3 after surrendering four runs off seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Seth Henry went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs, while Tim Guidry batted 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs to lead the Tulane offense. Warren McFadden batted 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, while Brad Emaus finished the day 2-for-4
The Cougars return to action at 7 p.m., Tuesday, when they face Texas-San Antonio at Riverside Park in Victoria, Texas. This will be the rubber match of the 2007 regular-season series. The Cougars enjoyed a 12-10 win on Feb. 22 during the first day of the Southwest Diamond Classic in Frisco, Texas before the Roadrunners claimed a 4-3 win on Feb. 27 in San Antonio, Texas.

For the second straight game, the Green Wave grabbed the lead with the game's first run. Seth Henry lined a one-out, single into center field, moved to second following a two-out walk to Warren McFadden and scored on Tim Guidry's single to center field.
The score remained that way until the sixth inning when the Cougars grabbed the lead with four runs off five hits. Lormand led off with a single to right center and stole second base to move into scoring position. After Fanaselle's bunt single down the third-base line put runners on the corner, Cesario smashed an RBI-single into right field to tie the game at 1-1.
Dustin Kingsbury followed with a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up, and Josh Stirneman drew an intentional pass to load the bases. Luis Flores then lined a two-run single into left field to plate Fanaselle and Cesario. With the infield drawn in, Zak Presley laced another RBI-single into right field to score Stirneman.
In the seventh inning, Lormand and Fanaselle led off with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Kingsbury slapped an RBI-single into right center to score Lormand and move Fanaselle to third. Stirneman followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to hand the Cougars a 6-1 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, Aja Barto led off with a home run to left center. Henry followed with a one-out double down the third-base line and scored on McFadden's single to center. Guidry then lined a double to left center to plate McFadden to pull Tulane to within 6-4. However, that would be as close as the Green Wave would get the rest of the way.
