HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team recently added three players during the late signing period, head coach Rayner Noble announced Thursday.
Outfielder Zak Presley (Southlake Carroll High School), infielder Jimmy Cesario (Delgado Junior College) and infielder Felix Fanaselle (Angelina Junior College) will join the Cougars for the 2007 season after signing National Letters of Intent.
Cesario and Fanaselle will start their collegiate careers as sophomores, while Presley will compete as a freshman in 2007.
Fanaselle joins the team after competing as a freshman at Angelina Junior College in 2006. The Houston native competed at Lamar for then-head coach and current UH volunteer assistant Jorge Garza and assembled an impressive resume, earning All-District honors for two years and emerging as an All-City performer as a senior in 2005.
Cesario played for Delgado Junior College during the 2006 season after a stellar prep career at Jesuit High School in Metairie, La. A two-time All-District 9-5A honoree, Cesario batted .410 with five home runs as a senior.
Cesario was no stranger to winning during his high school days, competing as a member of the Blue Jays' state championship baseball team as a sophomore and as the starting point guard on the school's state champion basketball team as a freshman.
Presley was one of Southlake Carroll's leading players during his final prep season, batting .390 with eight doubles and adding team-bests of six triples and 20 stolen bases. A 31st round draft pick of the New York Yankees in the 2006 annual amateur draft, Presley helped lead the Dragons to the Class 5A Region I semifinals on the way to being named to the All-District 5-5A First Team and the THSCA All-State Team.
A talented all-around student-athlete, Presley also earned three letters at wide receiver for the Dragons' 2004-05 state champions and was a member of the National Honor Society and 2005 Football Academic All-State Team.
