HOUSTON - University of Houston baseball head coach Rayner Noble's contract was recently extended, adding three years to the two he had left on his contract.
"This was a good time to do this at the beginning of the baseball season," UH athletics director Dave Maggard said. "Rayner has done a great job for this department, and this is a show of respect and appreciation that we have this kind of baseball program here at the University of Houston."
Terms of the extension were not disclosed.
Noble, who begins his 12th season at the helm of his alma mater in 2006, is the program's winningest coach with a 390-283 career record.
During his tenure, he has guided UH to three NCAA Super Regional championship games, three Conference USA regular-season championships and a pair of C-USA Tournament crowns.
He has guided nearly 40 players to professional careers, including catcher Chris Snyder, pitcher Ryan Wagner and pitcher Jesse Crain, who competed in the Major Leagues during the 2005 season.
His Cougar team opens the 2006 season at 2 p.m., Feb. 7 when they play host to Texas-San Antonio at Cougar Field. From there, the team will compete at the Minute Maid Park College Classic for the sixth consecutive year.
The Cougars open the tournament at 7 p.m., Feb. 10 against Texas, meet TCU at 3 p.m., Feb. 11 and wrap up their stay at 11 a.m., Feb. 12 against Texas Tech.
