SOUTHERN MISS HEAD COACH CORKY PALMER
"We had 18 innings of tough baseball today. That team (UAB) had been playing great baseball for a month, so I'm really for our players to come all the way through this."
UAB RELIEF PITCHER ADAM SMITH
"We put up nine runs which made it a little more comfortable for me. I just went out there and let them put the ball in play and we made outs."
On his attitude coming into this game after a poor outing against Memphis
"I was just ready to get back out there again. I threw horrible that first day. I know it and everybody knows it. I was just ready to get the ball again and get a big stop for us."
UAB RELIEF PITCHER JOHN NICHOLAS
On coming through the losers bracket to get to the finals
"It's definitely a challenge. What I like about the elimination is that people are going to step up, somebody is going to have to do the job. It gets some experience for us. Down the road it is going to pay dividends. We (the pitchers) want to prove to our teammates that we can do it if we get in a bind. Next week in the regionals, if we lose the first game, we want them to know we are going to be there for them."
UAB HEAD COACH LARRY GIANGROSSO
"We're very disappointed right now. We ran into a really good Southern Miss team. Offensively they are very, very sound and their hits just come in bunches. We ran a little short on pitching, of course so did they, but we had some opportunities in the seventh and eighth innings that we had to convert on, but we just came up short."
On the C-USA Tournament as a whole
"I want to say what a great tournament this has been. Not only the Conference USA people that put this on but the city of Houston and especially the University of Houston. Everything was down to the minute and it was a very well run tournament. They did a great job and we're real proud to e a part of it. I want to make sure the people that run the tournament and at this institution know that there is people that appreciate a well run tournament."
