FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Swimmer Szintia Szanto earned three first-place finishes and Lucile Turpin added two more, but it would not be quite enough as the University of Houston swimming and diving team fell to Arkansas 184-115 on Saturday at the Arkansas Natatorium.
With the loss, the Cougars dropped to 9-8 overall in dual meets this season.
A native of Budapest, Hungary, Szanto led all swimmers with her performances. She started the day with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.36.
She followed that with a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:20.96, nearly six seconds ahead of her closest competitor in the event. Szanto then capped her day with top honors in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.70.
Senior captain Lucile Turpin placed first in a pair of events as well. The French Reunion Islands native won the 200-yard butterfly competition with a time of 2:09.41 and added a win in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:36.68.
Turpin started the day with a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Kristina DeWitt and Kat Lau also placed second-place finishes in other events.
On the diving side, freshman Anna Kiess won the platform competition with 416.475 points, making her the only diver to top 400 points at the meet.
Earlier in the day, Kiess finished second in the 3-meter competition with 286.95 points.
The Cougars return to action next weekend with their final home dual meets of the season. UH plays host to SMU at 7 p.m., Friday before meeting Texas A&M at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
