Volleyball spikes Blue Demons

HOUSTON, Texas - Behind a second straight strong performance by junior Loure Dews, the University of Houston volleyball team beat DePaul University Saturday night in four games at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Dews led the Cougars with 23 kills and seven block assists Saturday night after a 22-kill performance on Friday night.
Houston took the first game from the Blue Demons 30-26 but DePaul was able to tie the match at one game apiece by winning game two 30-27.
In games three and four the Cougars jumped out to early leads and held off any Blue Demon comeback efforts winning 30-22 and 30-20.
Houston finished with four players with double digit kills. Kelly McAnelly had 18 kills, Becca Sartori had 14 and Cinthia Piva finished with 11 kills and 15 digs. Jaci Gonzalez finished with a game high 22 digs for the Cougars while setter Lauren Grover passed out 32 assists.
The Cougars improved their conference record to 4-5 in Conference USA play with the win and 8-15 overall. The next action for Houston will be on the road Friday night when the take on Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky at 7:30 p.m.
