HOUSTON - Fans eager to see the University of Houston baseball team in action before fall practice ends will have only three more chances next week.
The Cougars, who ranked among the nation's top 10 leaders in all four polls a year ago, will hold their annual Red-White World Series on Tuesday, Oct. 29, Wednesday, Oct. 31 and Friday, Nov. 1. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m. each day at Cougar Field, and the public is invited to attend at no charge.
The World Series is a best-of-3 format, but the two teams will play the third and final game on Friday, even if a winner has already been decided.
The baseball squad has been working out since Oct. 8 in preparation for the 2003 opener at the Pepperdine Tournament in Malibu, Calif., on Feb. 7-9. UH head coach Rayner Noble, who begins his ninth season at the helm of his alma mater this year, and his coaching staff divided the players into two teams, who will square off in the Red-White World Series.
Seventeen letterwinners and seven starters return from the 2002 squad, which captured its third Conference USA regular-season championship in the last four years and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Super Regional for the second time in the last three years.
