Women’s Cross Country Team Finishes Third at Texas A&M Invitational

Cadence Patterson leads women’s squad to third place, Henok Hagos earns an individual second place finish
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston women's cross country team placed third overall and senior Henok Hagos earned a second-place individual finish at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday at the Watts Cross Country Course.
The women's squad placed third with 114 points in the 5k and the men finished fourth in the 8k with 81 points. Six personal bests were recorded on the women's side by juniors Cadence Patterson, Addison Hite, AnnClaire Cop, Julia Shimel, Daniela Mendez and sophomore Sophia Nguyen.
Patterson paced the women for a second consecutive meet with a 10th-place individual finish in 17:35.5. Hite followed in 12th place at 17:38.1, while Cop finished in 18:15.2 for 27th place. Campos crossed the finish line in 18:24.7 for 31st place, and Shimel was the final scorer for the Cougars' top five in 34th place with a time of 18:27.3.
Hagos earned his second back-to-back second-place finish with a time of 23.56.2. Senior Jack Boyd was the second Cougar to cross the finish line in 24:17.4 and senior David Soto completed the race in 24:56.6 for 18th place. Junior Remay Abraha followed closely to take 20th overall in 24:58.7 and junior Zade Kayyali completed the race in 25:36.8 for 37th place.

Houston returns to College Station, Texas, to conclude the regular season on Friday, Oct. 16, for the Arturo Barrios Invitational. The men will run the 8k at 8:15 a.m., followed by the women's 6k at 8:50 a.m.
