Former Four-Star Guard Janiyah Williams Signs with Women’s Basketball

Sophomore guard joins Cougars with three years of eligibility remaining
HOUSTON – Head Coach Matthew Mitchell announced the signing of sophomore guard Janiyah Williams, a transfer from Oregon, on Thursday.
A 5-9 guard from Edmond, Okla., Williams joins the Cougars after spending her freshman year at Oregon. Williams will have three years of eligibility remaining.
During her freshman campaign, Williams and the Ducks reached the NCAA Tournament Second Round, scoring five points against Texas. She averaged 2.8 points per game and appeared in 28 games. She scored a career high 12 points against Utah State (Nov. 23, 2025) and matched the total against Nebraska (Feb. 19, 2026) on a perfect shooting night (5-5 FG, 2-2 3PT).
The Edmond, Okla., native prepped at Edmond Memorial High School. She was ranked No. 53 overall in the Class of 2025 by espnW Top 100 and was rated a four-star recruit by ESPN. She was also the sixth-highest-rated player in Oklahoma.
As a senior, she averaged 20.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. She also recorded a state-leading 16 double-doubles as a prep senior, helping her team to a berth in the state title game. Williams was named 6A-District 1 Player of the Year, first team all-6A-District 1 and 6A-District 1 MVP.
During her junior year, Williams averaged 16.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.1 assists per game while shooting over 50.0 percent from the field.
She scored over 1,000 points in her prep career, surpassing the milestone in her junior season.
