
Women’s Basketball Drops Senior Day Game Against UCF

Cougars conclude regular season, open action at Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday
HOUSTON – Graduate guard Laila Blair moved to second on the University of Houston Women's Basketball career scoring list as the Cougars dropped their final regular season game, 73-61, on Senior Day against UCF inside Fertitta Center on Sunday.
In her final home game as a Cougar, Blair surpassed Sharion Higgins' 1,957 points to become the second all-time scorer in program history. The Houston native scored 18 points against UCF and now has 1,960 career points.
The Cougars (5-24, 1-17 Big 12) were led by graduate guard Eylia Love's 20 points. Redshirt sophomore guard Gigi Cooke scored 11 points with six of her points coming from the free throw line.
UCF (11-17, 4-14 Big 12) picked up its fourth conference victory with four scoring in double figures led by Kaitlin Peterson's 25 points. Nevaeh Brown tallied 13, Khyala Ngodu posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Emely Rodriguez finished the game with 11.
Love came out of the gate hot for the Cougars, scoring 11 first-quarter points to give Houston a 21-16 lead.
Houston had a 26-20 lead at the 6:19 mark in the second, but a 16-2 UCF run allowed the Knights to enter the locker room with an 8-point lead.
Cooke used an early 3-point play to get Houston within five, but a 6-0 run increased UCF's lead back to 11. The Cougars struggled offensively in the final four minutes of the quarter as they were only able to score one field goal. A layup by UCF's Peterson at the buzzer gave the Knights a 56-40 lead heading into the final frame.
UCF led by as many as 20 in the fourth, but Houston trimmed the deficit to 10. The Cougars were unable to score from the field in the final two minutes of the game as the Knights picked up their final regular-season win of the season.
