Cougars win team championship by 33 strokes; Junior Moa Svedenskiold collects second title of career
SUGAR LAND, Texas – For the third straight round, the University of Houston Women's Golf program posted a sub-par score and junior Moa Svedenskiold finished with a score of 10-under 206 as the Cougars swept the team and individual championships at the Riverbend Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon.
Competing on the 6,148-yard, par-72 layout at Riverbend Country Club, the Cougars finished with a score of 6-under 858 to win the team title by 33 strokes over Abilene Christian.
Svedenskiold was part of a dominating Cougar lineup which placed five student-athletes among the Top-10 leaders. Juniors Alexa Saldana and Natalie Saint Germain joined Svedenskiold under par through 54 holes and finished third and fourth, respectively.
Sophomore Maelynn Kim tied for fifth at 218 while junior Hyeonji Kang joined Svedenskiold under par in the Final Round with a 70 Tuesday and finished eighth at 221.
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla, the Cougars captured their second team championship of the 2024-25 season after winning the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., on Sept. 21-23, 2024.
The 2024-25 Cougars became only the third team in school history to win multiple team titles in a season, joining the 2015-16 team (three titles) and the 2018-19 squad (two titles).

This was the 10th team tournament title the history of Houston Women's Golf, which began play during the 2013-14 season.
For the second straight round, Svedenskiold played bogey-free golf. Starting off No. 1, the Halmstad, Sweden, native drained birdies on three of five holes late on her front nine and early on her back nine and ended the tournament with eight straight pars.
She earned the second individual title of her career after winning the 2022 Jim West Challenge and joined Leonie Harm (four titles) and Megan Thothong (two titles) as the only Cougars to win multiple individual championships at Houston.
Saldana, Saint Germain and Kim each recorded career-best finishes. Saldana topped her previous best of sixth at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational (Sept. 8-10, 2024) while Saint Germain – who was playing as an individual – enjoyed her best finish since placing fourth at the Mo'Morial Invitational (Sept. 20-21, 2022).
Kim's previous best finish was a ninth-place showing at the Jim West Challenge (Oct. 22-23, 2023).
Sophomore Ellen Yates tied for 18th at 227 while freshman Annika Ishiyama tied for 33rd at 232. Playing as an individual, senior Brooke Morales came in 35th at 233.
Tarleton State (903), New Mexico State (903) and UT Arlington (905) rounded out the Top-Five team leaders.
Abilene Christian's Ryann Honea came in second at 211 with Tarleton State's Louise Depadt finishing fifth at 216.
