Svedenskiold tied for fifth to pace Houston entering Sunday’s Final Round
TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Houston Women's Golf sits one stroke back of the lead and tied for third place after 36 holes, including 18 Saturday, at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club. The Cougars have carded a 4-under, 572, trailing only Texas A&M (571) and and South Florida (571).
The Cougars will play 18 holes on Sunday from the 6,345-yard, par-72 course. The Final Round begins with a 9:45 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start. Houston is tied with Iowa State (572) and two strokes up on Arkansas (574), which rounds out the Top 5.
Houston sophomore Moa Svedenskiold vaulted four spots up the leaderboard after shooting 2-under Saturday highlighted by three consecutive birdies between the Front and Back 9. The Halmstad, Sweden, native sits in a seven-way tie for fifth at 3-under, 141, and just three off the lead.
Houston's biggest mover on the day was freshman Maelynn Kim who climbed 15 spots up the leaderboard thanks to a Second Round 3-under, 69. The Katy, Texas, native who shot a 74 on Friday and sits tied for 14th at 1-under, 143, sunk four birdies during her Second Round.
Sophomore teammate Alexa Saldana is tied for 18th heading into Sunday with an even-par 144. The Mexico City product birdied two of her first three holes on the day and is among 27 golfers at even-par or better. Junior Hyeonji Kang is in 28th at 1-over, 145, after a Second Round 75.
Senior Nicole Abelar is tied for 47th at 149 and redshirt junior Brooke Morales, competing as an individual, is tied for 73rd at 155.
Arkansas freshman Maria Jose Marin and Iowa State sophomore Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn are tied for the individual lead at 6-under, 138.

From there, the Cougars take their first steps in the postseason when they tee off at the Big 12 Championships, set for April 18-20 at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas. The winner of the league's annual postseason event receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals to be held at one of six sites across the counry on May 6-8.
