
Saenz Leads Women’s Golf at MountainView Collegiate

Senior shoots 1-under 71 to tie for 23rd; Second Round continues Saturday morning
TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Houston senior Ariana Saenz posted a 1-under 71 to lead the Cougars and tie for 23rd following the First Round of the MountainView Collegiate on Friday evening.
Competing on the 6,210-yard, par-72 course at MountainView Golf Club, Saenz started her day with a birdie off no. 1. The Porter, Texas, returned to even par, following nine straight pars with a bogey on No. 11 but sandwiched a pair of birdies on No. 15 and No. 17 around a bogey on No. 16 join five others at 1-under 143.
As a team, the Cougars finished the first day in 12th with a score of 298. Texas Tech held the First-Round lead at 271 with San Jose State (277), Oklahoma State (281), Texas A&M (281) and UNLV (283) rounding out the Top Five.
Senior Annie Kim was tied for 28th at 72, while sophomore Nicole Abelar was tied for 58th at 76. Sophomore Delaney Martin was tied for 77th at 79 with senior Maria Jose Martinez tied for 89th at 84.
Texas Tech's Anna Dong stood atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under 65 to finish two shots ahead of Oklahoma State's Han-Hsuan Yu, UNVL's Veronica Joels and San Jose State's Natasha Oon.
Teams will play 18 holes each day through Sunday with a 10 a.m. (CDT) split-tee start on Saturday and a 10 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start for Sunday's Final Round.
This is Houston's second event of the spring season.
