HOUSTON – The No. 23 University of Houston volleyball team wrapped up a five-game homestand with its fourth consecutive sweep, posting a three-set victory against Tulane on Wednesday in the Fertitta Center.
Â
Houston (22-2, 13-0 The American) improved its winning streak to 14, the program's longest since another 14-match streak in 1996. The win also pushed the Cougars' win streak against Tulane (8-16, 3-10 The American) to six. Â
Â
Wednesday's sweep tallied the team's 11th of the season, having only lost eight sets out of 47 total sets played in 13 American Athletic Conference matches this season. The Cougars have won their last 14 sets, dating back to the fourth set in an Oct. 21 battle against Wichita State.
Â
Senior Morgan Janda recorded her 33rd career double-double and second of the season with 14 assists and 10 digs.Â
Â
Senior Abbie Jackson led the team with 14 kills on the day, extending her streak of matches with 10-or-more kills to 11 straight. It also marked her 75th career game with double-digit kills. Senior Rachel Tullos tallied a .636 hitting percentage with seven kills on 11 attempts while graduate Kennedy Warren posted nine kills and a .304 hitting percentage.Â
Â
Junior Kate Georgiades' posted 13 digs, continuing her season-long streak of leading Houston in the category, and junior Annie Cooke recorded a team-leading 19 assists.Â
Â
Tullos gained sole possession of No. 2 on the program's block solos list with her one on the day giving her 124 in her career. She passed Latisha Charles' (1986-87, 1989-90) 123. Jackson also gained sole possession of No. 4 on Houston's career kills list, as her 1,478 surpassed Lilly Denoon-Chester's (1991-94) 1,464.
Â
SET ONE
After Tulane jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, Houston sparked a 10-1 run to create some distance for an 11-5 lead. Momentum remained with the Cougars as they held on to a 15-9 lead at the first media timeout.Â
Â
After the Green Wave tightened their deficit to 19-15, the Cougars closed out the set with a 7-0 run to win the frame, 25-15.Â

The Cougars posted a .371 hitting percentage led by Warren's six kills. Georgiades posted seven digs while Cooke tallied seven assists in the set.Â
Â

Â
The Cougars closed the gap with a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to 17-16. Down 21-18 late in the set, Houston jumped on a 4-0 run to take its first lead of the set at 22-21 after Warren hustled nearly beyond the edge of the court on a rally to save the leading point.
Â
Despite a late Tulane effort in attempt to salvage the set, the Cougars roared back and completed a 7-2 run to win the set, 25-23.Â
Â
Jackson led the team with four kills in the second set while Cooke posted five assists.
Â
SET THREE

Â
A cycle of exchanged points led to a 15-15 score before Houston pulled in front at 20-19.Â
Â
Houston turned on the heat and produced nine kills in its final 12 points while limiting Tulane's chances to keep the set tight. The Cougars finished the set with an 8-3 run to win the set, 25-21, and cap off its five-game homestand with a fourth consecutive sweep.Â
