
Houston Ready to Open Season at Oklahoma Invitational

Cougars meet Lipscomb at 3 p.m., Friday, on first day; Face Oregon State and host Sooners on Saturday
NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Houston Volleyball program begins its second season in the year 2021 when the Cougars compete at the Oklahoma Invitational inside McCasland Field House.

The Cougars open the 2021 season at 3 p.m., Friday, when they take on Lipscomb. From there, the Cougars meet Oregon State at 2:30 p.m., Saturday before closing out the tournament at 7 p.m., Saturday, against Oklahoma.

A year ago, Houston posted a 13-6 overall record with a 9-1 mark in American Athletic Conference play to capture the West Division title. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team's 2020 schedule – normally played in the fall – was moved to the spring of 2021, giving the Cougars its first two-season stretch during the same calendar year.

Under the leadership of third-year Head Coach David Rehr, Houston will be led by three Preseason All-American Athletic Conference honorees. Junior outside hitter Abbie Jackson, senior outside hitter Kortlyn Henderson and sophomore setter and 2020 American Setter of the Year Annie Cooke earned All-Conference honors a year ago and collected similar honors in the preseason.

Houston owns a 2-0 lead against Lipscomb with a 3-1 win in the Lipscomb Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., on Sept. 1, 2012, in the most recent meeting.
