Volleyball Ends Paradise invitational in Loss to #3 Kentucky

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The University of Houston Volleyball team fell in straight sets to #3 Kentucky (13-25, 19-25, 23-25) at the Baha Mar Convention Center, Sunday afternoon.

The match marked Houston's (5-3) second game against a ranked opponent in as many days. The Wildcats improved to 7-2 on the season.

Kentucky rocketed into an early lead in the match, claiming the first set 25-13. The Wildcats held the Cougars to a sub-zero hitting percentage in a set where they never trailed.
Houston fell in the second set 25-19. The Cougars jumped into an early 5-1 lead off the back of two service aces. Kentucky scored the next four points, tying the set at five. With the score tied at eight, the Wildcats claimed seven out of nine points to a 15-10 lead at the media timeout. Kentucky continued its momentum out of the break, ending the set 25-19.

The third set was the Cougars' best effort coming within two points of a set win, losing 25-23. Junior Sydney Jones led the charge with five kills in the set. With the score tied at ten, the Cougars jumped to a 14-11 advantage scoring four of five points. The Wildcats evened the score at 15. Back-and-forth scoring guided the set into a 20-20 deadlock, before three consecutive points by the Cougars forced a Kentucky timeout. Following the timeout, Kentucky answered back with five unanswered points winning the set 25-23, and the match 3-0.

UP NEXT
Houston returns to the Fertitta Center as hosts in the Flo Hyman Classic, featuring Texas State, UTSA and Houston Christian. The Cougars will play two matches on Friday against UTSA and Texas State at noon and 6:30 p.m.
