
Karen Fredgaard Advances to ANWA Final Round

Sophomore finishes 36 holes at 145 to tie for fifth through 36 holes
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Finishing her First Round with a 2-under 70 on Thursday morning, University of Houston sophomore Karen Fredgaard tied for fifth at 145 through 36 holes to advance to the Augusta National Women's Amateur Final Round on Saturday.
Fredgaard was tied for second at -1 through 15 holes before play was suspended due to inclement weather on Wednesday night. Returning to the course Thursday morning, she overcame a bogey on No. 16 with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17-18 to finish with a 70.
In the Second Round, the Asserbo, Denmark, native fought through three bogeys on her first 10 holes with a birdie on the par-3 11th hole. She went on went to make par on six of last seven holes.
With her Top-30 finish, Fredgaard qualified for Saturday's Final Round at Augusta National Golf Club, becoming to first Cougar to earn that distinction.
Rose Zhang and Ingrid Lindblad held the individual lead after the Second Round at 1-under 143. Auston Kim and Olivia Mehaffey were tied for third at 144, while Fredgaard joined Gina Kim and Tsubasa Kajitani in a tie for fifth.
Fredgaard earned her invitation to the Augusta National Women's Amateur for the second straight season as one of the world's leading amateur players. She did not compete in the 2020 tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fredgaard is the second Cougar to compete at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, joining Leonie Harm who played in the inaugural event in 2019.
TEE TIMES
Prior to the Final Round, the entire 82-woman field will hold a practice round at Augusta National on Friday.
For Friday's practice round at Augusta National Golf Club, Fredgaard will compete with Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and Kaleigh Telfer beginning at 8:12 a.m. (CDT).
For Saturday's Final Round, Fredgaard will play with Gina Kim and tee off at 9 a.m. (CDT).
HOW to WATCH
NBC Sports will produce and broadcast three hours of live final-round coverage at Augusta National from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. (CDT ) on Saturday.
NBC Sports will also provide pre-event promotion across NBCUniversal's portfolio, while Golf Channel will deliver highlights, live reports and news coverage throughout the event, including onsite during the first two competitive rounds at Champions Retreat.
Additionally, Golf Channel's "Live From the Masters" will commence on Friday from Augusta National and wrap ANWA coverage on Saturday and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals on Sunday.

ABOUT KAREN FREDGAARD
After an award-winning freshman season in 2019-20, Fredgaard has continued her stellar play this season.
The Asserbo, Denmark, native leads the Cougars with a 69.67 scoring average. Of the 12 rounds in which she has played this season, Fredgaard has posted par or lower in 11 of those.
She started the spring season by capturing the individual championship at the UCF Challenge with a score of 7-under 209 for the first title of her career. Fredgaard followed that with a second-place finish at the ICON Invitational at Golf Club of Houston, a ninth-place showing at the Clover Cup and a third-place finish at the MountainView Collegiate.
She currently stands at No. 7 in the latest Golfstat individual national rankings.
As a freshman in 2019-20 season, Fredgaard competed in all six team-scoring tournaments and led the Cougars with a 71.33 scoring average and 12 rounds of par or better. Fredgaard earned a team-high three Top-10 finishes, including a season-best second-place showing at the White Sands Invitational in the Bahamas.
Fredgaard joined the Cougars following an impressive international career. She was selected to competed for the Danish National Girls Team in 2016-17 and was elevated to the National Team for 2018-19.
She placed 11th at the 2018 European Amateur Championship and finished fifth at the 2018 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship, which was won by Harm.
