Houston swept its opponent for the 3rd-straight match, wins 6th straight
HOUSTON − For the third-straight match the Houston volleyball team swept its competition; topping Cincinnati and extending its winning streak to six matches on Sunday (25-17, 25-16, 25-23). Â
The Senior Day sweep saw all four seniors contribute on the court. Libero Torie Frederick started for the fifth time in 2021 and tallied seven digs. Frederick now has 964 career digs heading into the final four matches of the season. Right-side hitter Bridget Wallenberger came in during the second set and got a kill on an overpass for her third kill of the weekend on three swings. Setter Kelsey Childers served and went on a short run in set two and set three and middle blocker Kendall Haywood hit .667 with two kills.Â
Junior Abbie Jackson led the match in kills (14) and hit .297. She ended the weekend hitting .370 over the two matches, averaging 5.17 kills per set. Junior Rachel Tullos tallied eight total blocks for the weekend, hitting .524 over the two matches. Middle blocker Isabel Theut, who plans to utilize her additional eligibility, hit .400 with seven kills.Â
As a team, Houston hit .314 for the match, the second match in a row the team hit over .300 in a match. The Cougars also captured win No. 23, the most in a season since 1997. UH has now swept its opponent in three-straight matches and matched its longest winning streak of the season with six-straight wins (Aug. 27-Sept. 4).Â
In the first set, Houston hit .458 with 13 kills, four of which came from the arm of outside hitter Kennedy Warren. The Cougars held the Bearcats to a .065 attacking percentage in the set, including nine attacking errors.Â
Houston hit over .400 in the second set as well, terminating 18 swings in the frame. Jackson knocked down six in the set with Theut posting four second set kills.Â
Cincinnati tried to claw back in the third set, going on a 7-2 run at the end of the set. A double block by sophomore Annie Cooke and Tullos sealed the victory 25-23.Â

The Cougars hit the road for the final time of the 2021 regular season with matches at Memphis and SMU on Friday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 21. UH returns home for its final home matches against South Florida and UCF Nov. 24 and 26.
