Maya Jones notches a career-high 19 points
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team couldn't overcome a strong fourth quarter effort from Tulsa, falling in its regular season finale in a 71-64 decision.

Turnovers plagued the Cougars (12-18, 5-11 American) as Tulsa (9-20, 4-12 American) made keys shots down the stretch to claim the last regular-season contest of the 2019-20 season. Maya Jones led Houston with a career-high 19 points, Julia Blackshell-Fair led the Cougars in rebounds and assists with nine and six, respectively. Jones matched her career-high in blocks with four, as Dymond Gladney added 10 points to the Cougar effort.
The Cougar defense did it best to stifle the Golden Hurricane, racking up 11 blocks and holding Tulsa to 18.2 percent shooting from three-point range. Efficiency down the stretch was the difference in the game as the Cougars closed out the game by hitting 7 of its last 12 shots and Tulsa hit 10 of its last 10 from the field, outscoring UH 33-26 in the fourth quarter.
Houston came up big on the boards, outrebounding Tulsa 44-40 and outscoring the Golden Hurricane 9-4 in second chance points. The Cougars racked up their 26th game with 15 or more forced turnovers, turning over Tulsa 16 times.
Destiny Johnson led Tulsa with 23 points as Kendrian Elliot added 11 rebounds. Rebecca Lescay led the Golden Hurricane in assists with seven.
Houston will enter the American Athletic Conference Tournament as the 10th seed.
