Cougars off to California for final regular season meet
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are on the road for the final meet of the 2018 regular season, the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, on Saturday in Santa Clara, Calif.
ABOUT THE SANTA CLARA BRONCO INVITATIONAL
The Santa Clara Bronco Invitational begins at 10:45 a.m., CT with the Men's 8K College Invitational, while the women will run in the 6K College Invitational beginning at 11:30 a.m., CT. The Cougars will compete against the host-school Santa Clara, Biola, Cal Poly, Cal, Central Arizona, Chico State, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Loyola Marymount, Northern Colorado, Pepperdine, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Jose State, Seattle, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA and UTEP.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Each of the three top finishers for the men this season will be on the course in California, including redshirt freshman Nicholas Fernandes, who raced second at the season-opening Aggie Opener. Fernandes ran the 6K in that event in 18:24.0.
In the following meet, the Rice Invitational, sophomore Devin Fahey paced the Cougar team to a second-place finish with an individual top-10 finish after taking eighth in the 4-mile race at 20:33.9. In Houston's most recent competition, freshman Gabe Armijo ran 25:17.18 in the 8,000-meter race at the Texas A&M Invitational to lead the squad with a 20th-place finish.
For the women, junior Meredith Sorensen has led the squad in each of the past two meets, with the most recent coming as a top-10 finish. Sorensen entered the chute first at the Rice Invitational, finishing the 4K in 21st at 14:57.0 before running 10th in the 6K at the Texas A&M Invitational in 22:18.48.
Junior Jahnavi Schneider also returns to the course for the Bronco Invite on Saturday. Schneider began the season as Houston's top finisher in the Aggie Opener, running the 4K in 15:14.9 to place 13th.
