Cougars Fall in Defensive Battle at Tulsa
2/10/2016 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Tulsa, Okla. â€" Junior forward Jacqueline Blake scored a career-high 12 points, while Serithia Hawkins matched a career-best with 12 rebounds, but the Cougars fell 44-28 in a defensive battle against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, on Wednesday, in Tulsa, Okla.
"We struggled shooting the basketball, but we rebounded it pretty well," Head Coach Ronald Hughey said. "The only thing that is disheartening for me is that our seniors need to step up and make plays and they didn't tonight. It's disheartening to see that. We just needed a little bit more from them because the young ones are still learning."
Both teams struggled through a first half that saw each team shoot under 30 percent from the field, but a couple of big 3-pointers from junior Jacqueline Blake kept the Cougars in the game heading to the second frame. Blake finished the first half just one point shy of a career high with 10 points through the first 20 minutes.
"Jackie was definitely a bright spot tonight," Hughey said. "It was good to see her step up tonight. On the offensive end she played extremely well with 12 and seven. We need her to carry us home for the last six or seven games and stay consistent. Serithia Hawkins was a little nervous playing back home, but did a great job rebounding with 12 rebounds again."
