HEAD COACH Ronald Hughey
Opening Statement
"First off I would like to say Coach Stringer and the Rutgers team are a good team. She's been known for starting off slow sometimes and getting her teams to come back to be one of the best teams by the end of the season. My hat goes off to them.
I can't say enough about our fight, our attitude and our heart for this game. We've harping on our team this year to never give up, always fight through adversity and just try to be the best that they can be.
Funny story, me and Chyanne (Butler) sat down yesterday and watch some film of some negative plays she made and some positive plays. We went through and challenged her as a staff to be able to get us into things, stay calm, control the floor, and control the tempo. Coming in last year in mid-season, it's hard to do that when everybody else has rhythm. We threw that on her and she did her best. This year coming in with everybody else and coming on the meniscus surgery she had last year, things are falling into place right now. I just can't say enough about her with making the adjustment of being the leader that we ask her to be and controlling the floor and controlling the tempo. Not to discredit any of the other players, our entire team was great but again, this is something we asked of her and she stepped up we wouldn't have been able to get the victory if she hadn't."
On the ending the game on a 17-3 run to complete the comeback
"Extremely proud. During the timeout at the beginning of the fourth quarter we talked about sustaining and having the opportunity to fight. It's going to happen for us, just stay positive. We just had to take care of rebounding and transition defense. I knew if it came down to it because they didn't shoot the ball well, we would be able to get up and deny them to force them into some turnovers. We were able to do that. I was extremely proud, especially during the run. There are not many times teams get the opportunity to do that, especially over a four-minute period. It's what we lay our hat on, having opportunities to get up and guard them."
JUNIOR GUARD Chyanne Butler
On the success of the defense at the end of the game
"Our defense plays as hard as we possibly can and we trust each other, which leads to us creating turnovers and making stops so we can come back and do what we need to do to win the game."
On how they will apply this win to future games
"Just play hard throughout the entire game no matter the score or what's going on, just play hard, play your best, give it your all and play it likes it's your last game."
