HOUSTON - The University of Houston Soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision to Memphis at Carl Lewis Field, on Sunday.
Houston collected four saves from sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Estopare, and had shots from juniors Margo McEntire (2), Kristina Schulz and Kelsey Thein, as well as from senior Courtney Dudley. Schulz had a great look at the goal in the 67th minute on a free kick from the top of the box that hit the crossbar.
The Cougars held Memphis scoreless in the first 45 minutes of play. The Tigers got on the board early in the second half. On a corner kick from Jessica Lisi, Miranda Smith was able to finish with a strike in the right side of the net in the 52nd minute of play. Memphis would add another goal in the 63rd minute of play. Tiger forward Serena Dolan netted her 14th goal of the season off an assist from Valerie Sanderson to give Memphis the 2-0 lead.
The Cougars used both goalkeepers in goal as Estopare made the start and tallied four saves in 70 minutes of action and was relieved by freshman Nicole Young, who was between the posts for 20 minutes of action.
