UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The 2014-15 season drew to a close for the University of Houston women's basketball team on Friday night as the Cougars fell, 64-39, to Tulane in the first round of the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship.
Following a difficult first half, the No. 11 seeded Cougars fought hard after the intermission to keep their season alive. Houston scored almost two-thirds of their points after the break but could not overcome the early lead built by the No. 6 seeded Green Wave
"This is a great venue; we love the conference and everything it represents," Head Coach Ronald Hughey said after the loss. "We wish we would have played better, and we look forward to the opportunity to come back here next year and do better."

The Cougars scuffled out of the gates and had trouble converting offensively. Tulane took advantage, scoring the first eight points of the game to quickly build a solid lead.
TOP PERFORMERS |
Houston: Mariah Mitchell and Jessieka Palmer each scored a team-high seven points. Tyler Gilbert added six points, a team-best eight rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots.
Tulane: Courtnie Latham was the lone player in double-figures, with 14 points.

- For the night, Tulane shot 46.2 percent (24-for-52). Houston finished at 26.0 percent (13-for-50)
- The rebounding battle was exceptionally tight, with Tulane holding a 38-35 edge.
- The Cougars grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and held Tulane to 12. Houston hit double-digits in the category in their final five games.
- Bianca Winslow finished with two steals and two assists, tops on the Houston club in both categories.
- All seven of Mitchell's points came from the free throw line, setting a career high.
- Tulane led at halftime, 30-10, with Gilbert and Moesha Kinard each scoring three points for the Cougars.

- Gilbert led Houston in rebounding for the 17th time this season. The junior ended the season with a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game.
- Palmer was Houston's top scorer in eight games and paced the club for the campaign with 9.6 points per game.
- Gilbert finished with 63 blocks in her junior season, matching the fifth-highest single-season total in Houston women's basketball history.
- The junior recorded multiple blocks in 19 of Houston's 30 games.
- Junior Sandra Davis logged 15 minutes, her most court time since Jan. 24. The junior finished with four points and her first ever two-block game.
- Kinard hit two 3-pointers for the second time in her career and scored six points.
- Tulane holds a 24-13 lead over Houston in the all-time series.
- The Cougars are now 1-2 all-time in American Championship games.
