HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team challenged Tulane from the opening tip to the final whistle on Tuesday night before falling, 63-46, at Hofheinz Pavilion.
"(Tonight) would have been a huge win, but (we) have to take care of all the small things," said Houston Head Coach Ronald Hughey. "(We) have to be consistent to win against teams like that."
Houston was paced by 13 points apiece from Tyler Gilbert and Alecia Smith. Gilbert added 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
The Cougars led the game for over nine minutes of the first half and were down by just eight points at the intermission. Houston's tenacious defense kept them in the game until the buzzer sounded against a Green Wave team that has spent the season among the top three clubs in the American Athletic Conference standings.
