PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Houston freshman Mariah Mitchell was named to the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced today. Mitchell is the second Cougar to earn the distinction this season.
Mitchell averaged 8.0 points per game last week as the Cougars went 2-1 at the Athletes in Action Classic in Lubbock. The freshman set a career high with nine points on Friday as Houston took down UTSA, 56-53. One day later, she topped her personal best yet again with 15 points in a 65-47 win over Nicholls State.
The McKinney, Texas native drained a pair of three-pointers in each of Houston's wins, and she shot 57.1% from three-point range for the week.
In addition to the conference honors, Mitchell's performance in Lubbock landed her on the Athletes in Action Classic All-Tournament team.
Junior Jessieka Palmer was the first Cougar to win American weekly honors, on November 24.
