MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sophomore Lauren Hodgdon netted her first goal of the season on an assist by senior Kylie Cook in the 70th minute of the game, but the Memphis offense proved too strong as it earned a 4-1 win over Houston Soccer on Sunday afternoon in American Athletic Conference play.
Hodgdon's goal was scored on ball that found the back of the net from the left side of the box. The Rosenberg, Texas native notched her second career goal and first of the year, while Cook contributed with her first assist of 2013 and 11th career dish.
Memphis opened up with three goals in the first half to take a 3-0 lead after the first 45 minutes. The Tigers would score in the 68th minute of the second half for a 4-0 lead, but Houston quickly responded less than two minutes later with the goal by Hodgdon.
The Cougars used both senior keepers in goal as Cami Koski made her 55th career start - a program best -tallied five saves in 50 minutes of action and was relieved by Sydney George, who notched six saves in 40 minutes of action.
POSTGAME QUOTE
Head Coach Chris Pfau
"One of the things that we are learning this year is how to play at this level game in and game out. Last year we proved we can beat teams and now we are learning how to play at this level every game. The last three games we have played very well and today we just had no legs. The thing that I was impressed with is when we lost Danielle [Munoz] and Cami [Koski] for the game we did not give up. We came out in the second half and found a way to score and compete. Sydney George came in and did a tremendous job at keeper and at the end of the game we gave every thing we had."
