Head Coach Todd Buchanan
On thoughts on the game...
"I thought we did some nice things. Arguably, Rice is the best team in the league at this point. I thought we showed a really nice sense of urgency. We fought back today in a way we haven't fought back all year. My hope is that we are finally buying in and understanding that we have to have a better sense of urgency."
On free throw shooting and aggressiveness...
"We have to do a better job of making our free throws. This week at practice I felt like we were shooting free throws better but at the end of the day you have to stop fouling. We can't let them go to the free throw line and score twenty points and shoot thirty-five free throws. I mean that with no disrespect to the officials. We played more aggressive today than we've played in a long time. If that's what it's going to take, I am going to tell them to play that way."
On the defensive effort...
"Our defense is doing a great job. Coach (Wade) Scott is doing a great job of mixing that in and giving them different looks. I am far from satisfied though. This is not where we want to be but I am better off mentally. I know that we fought back and in the end played much better basketball."
On the team building off this game...
"I think we can build off this game tremendously from the momentum. I think that Mae Woods, Terran Alford and Amanda Lawson played their best game combined defensively. My heart bleeds for Roxana Button. She put a lot into this game and really struggled from the field. We can certainly build on it and I anticipate that we will. We have SMU coming here on Thursday. It's good we get to play again at home and this can be a big confidence builder for our young team."
