HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team fell to Tulsa by a score of 77-48 on Thursday night at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Freshman forward Amanda Lawson led the Cougars with 15 points while senior guard Michelle White also scored in double figures with 10 first-half points.
The Cougars were plagued by another slow start, failing to score for a six-minute stretch as the Golden Hurricane (8-8, 3-2) ran out to a 33-11 lead at the 7:42 mark of the first half.
Houston bounced back as senior guard Roxana Button got on the board with back-to-back jumpers and White followed with a bucket to cut the deficit to 17 points.
Lawson and White then drained back-to-back 3-pointers to close the deficit to single digits and White capped off the 15-0 run with a jumper as Houston inched to within seven points at 33-26 with 22 seconds remaining.
Tulsa would carry the momentum into the break however, as Taleya Mayberry sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to snap a 7:40 scoreless drought and give the Golden Hurricane a 10-point advantage.
Tulsa quickly built on its lead to begin the second half, draining a 3-point bucket 11 seconds in to start a 13-4 run that the Cougars couldn't recover from.
Lawson was 6-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from long range in 34 minutes of action, while White also drained two treys for only the second time in her career.
Button experienced an off night, failing to score in double figures for the first time this season with eight points. The Coppell, Texas, native played 33 minutes and handed out three assists to go with three steals.
Freshman guard Danielle Parks finished with six points while fellow freshman Voché Martin added four points and a team-high six rebounds.
The Cougars shot 35 percent (20-of-57) from the field while Tulsa was red hot the entire game, finishing with a 50-percent clip (30-of-60) from the field.
Houston returns to action to take on league leader UTEP at 2 p.m., CT on Sunday in El Paso, Texas.
