ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH Wade Scott
On the game...
"We turned the ball over a little too much. We got a little too passive. You have to give UAB a lot of credit. They made it hectic for us. We were in there for a while but we just let it slip away."
On what went wrong...
"I liked our defensive energy in the first half. We really rebounded. Execution in the second half really hurt us. We just have to get better executing offensively. Defense is starting to come along a little bit. We have too many gaps. Rox (Button) didn't have a great game because they ran a lot of people at her. She's going to have some bad games and that's where people have to step up. We didn't have enough people step up and help today."
On what is to blame for the slow start...
"Part of it is that you have people who are playing positions that they aren't used to playing. That's the first part. Rox is better when she can run off screens and spot up. It is tough when you move her to point guard and you take your best shooter out of what she does well. Youth also plays a part in it. You have a lot of young kids out there who are trying to grasp what it is like to play in Division I. You're going to have some ups and downs but right now it's just more down than up."
On how to turn things around this season
"We're just going to have to get more consistent, especially on the offensive end. We can't go through five or six minute periods without scoring. Every time we go down there we have to have a very good possession, and we have to have some people crash the boards."
SENIOR GUARD Roxana Button
On the game...
"It was a tough game. We handled most of the runs except for that one late that got us down by 20. We just have to clean some things up and get ready for Tulsa."
On improvements to be made...
"We need to keep working in practice, stay focused, and continue to learn from our mistakes. Not going backwards is the biggest thing."
On the mindset of the team...
"We're disappointed obviously, but we're going to stay focused and get ready for Tulsa."
SENIOR GUARD Michelle White
On this season so far...
"It's a struggle, but we know we're young. We just have to keep getting better, keep buying into what the coaches are saying and we'll get better."
On improvements the team needs...
"We need to clean up our defense. If we clean up our defense, I think we can win any game in Conference USA."
On her thoughts about the outcome of the season...
"If we keep working and buying into what the coaches are saying, I think we will be right there, competing in every game on the schedule."
