BEAUMONT, Texas - The University of Houston women's basketball team couldn't hang on to a 12-point second-half lead, falling to Lamar by a score of 69-60, Tuesday evening at Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas. The Cougars wrapped up non-conference play with a 9-4 record.
Brittney Scott led all scorers with 19 points off 7-of-17 shooting, including a 4-of-8 effort from 3-point range.
With Houston up 35-31 three minutes into the second half, Roxana Button and Scott teamed up to bury back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers to open the lead to 12 points in just over a minute.
After a timeout with 14:50 remaining in the contest, Lamar (11-3) strung together a 10-0 run in less than two minutes to cut the deficit to only two points.
The Lady Cardinals took their first lead since midway through the first quarter with 7:55 remaining, but Houston managed to tie the game at 57 apiece with three minutes left before Lamar tallied 10 free-throws in the final 1:25 to put the contest out of reach.
Porsche Landry added eight points and five assists in the loss, while Button and Jasmine Johnson also chipped in with eight points.
Lesslee Mason posted three points, three assists and a team-high eight rebounds, while Brittany Mason registered four points, five boards, four steals and three assists.
Freshmen Mae Woods and Zalika Dyson each tied their career highs in the first half with six and four points, respectively.
Jenna Plumley led the Lady Cardinals with 17 points, while Trashanna Smith pulled down 14 boards.
The Cougars shot 36 percent (22-of-61) from the field, 46 percent (6-of-13) from downtown and 83 percent (10-of-12) from the free-throw line.
Houston turned the ball over 26 times, including 15 in the opening half, while forcing 25 turnovers on 11 steals. The Cougars edged Lamar in the rebounding battle by a 35-33 margin.
Houston opens Conference USA action at home against Tulsa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

*The Cougars dropped to 20-10 all-time against Lamar and 6-6 inside Montagne Center.
*Houston fell to 4-2 in away games with Tuesday's loss.
*Lamar improved to 7-0 at home this season and 25-0 against non-conference opponents at home dating back to the start of the 2007-08 season.
*Senior guard Brittney Scott made her 74th-consecutive start dating back to the beginning of the 2008-09 season.
*Scott hit four 3-pointers on Tuesday for 180 in her career, which is just eight shy of the all-time mark set by Houston great Chandi Jones.
*Senior forward Brittany Mason played in her 100th career game on Tuesday, while making her 51st-career start.
*Senior forward Courtney Taylor (15.8 ppg, 11.7 rpg) missed her third-consecutive game due to injury.
