Baseball Completes Sweep Of Cal Poly, Wins 5-3

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - University of Houston shortstop Blake Kelso led off the series finale against Cal Poly with a home run and the Cougar baseball team never looked back as they knocked off the Mustangs, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon at Baggett Stadium.
The opening home run was Kelso's first this season and the fourth in the series for UH.
The Cougars followed the opening run with another in the second inning, as Taylor White scored on Austin Gracey's RBI single up the middle after reaching base on a walk. The Mustangs sliced the lead in half with a solo home run by Matt Jensen in the fourth inning but as the Cougars had done all weekend, they answered in the top of the fifth when Kelso scored off a single to center field off Chris Wallace.
Houston extended its lead in the seventh inning, posting two runs. Zak Presley singled to shortstop with one out and scored on the next at bat, a Joel Ansley double to left center. Ansley then went on to score and push the Cougars' lead to four, 5-1, when M.P. Cokinos singled through the middle.
Cal Poly gave Houston a little scare in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs but the Cougars held off the comeback attempt and completed the series sweep, their first of the season.
Eric Brooks made the start on Sunday, going a career-long 6.1 innings, giving up five hits with three strikeouts. Codey Morehouse turned in 1.2 innings of relief and Matt Creel earned his third save going the final inning with three strikeouts.
Houston improves to 8-5 as they have now won six straight and are 4-2 all-time against Cal Poly.

Houston continues its road trip with mid-week games against San Francisco on March 16 at 4 p.m. and California on March 17 at 4:30 p.m.
