Huston-Tillotson kept the contest close through the opening four minutes, but Houston's up-tempo style of play proved to be too much as the Cougars went on a 39-5 run over an eight-minute span en route to a halftime score of 66-32.
Landry, a junior from Houston, dominated the first half of play with 23 of her 27 points coming in the opening frame. Landry went 12-of-16 from the field, including a 3-for-4 mark from beyond the arc, and also totaled eight assists and five steals.
Preseason Conference USA pick Brittney Scott also sparked the offensive outburst in the opening half, hitting the double-digit mark in only eight minutes. Scott, a native of Orange, Texas, finished with 19 points in 21 minutes off a 7-of-10 shooting effort from the field and a team-high five 3-pointers on eight attempts.
Senior Lesslee Mason wreaked havoc on the Rams, racking up 19 points, nine rebounds and a game-high six steals in 21 minutes. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native was 6-of-7 from the field, including a trey, and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Courtney Taylor, the reigning Conference USA Player of the Year, turned in a productive performance with 14 points and 10 boards in 17 minutes. Junior Roxana Button also posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 assists.
Brittany Mason, Megan Workman and newcomer Mae Woods also scored in double figures with 10 points apiece.
The Cougars forced 30 Huston-Tillotson turnovers on 25 steals and held the Rams to 32 percent from the field. Houston dished out 36 assists against 16 turnovers.
Houston kicks off the 2010-11 season at home at 5:00 p.m. Sunday against UT-Arlington.
NOTES
*The 134 points the Cougars scored would have set a school record if Tuesday's contest was official. The most points a Houston squad has scored is 117 against Hawaii-Pacific in 1984.
*Allie Henderson, Breana Williams and Mae Woods all saw their first collegiate action on Tuesday, combining for 19 points.
