HOUSTON - University of Houston senior diver Lacey Truelove was named the Conference USA Diver of the Week on Sunday after a dominating performance at the Phill Hansel Cougar Classic Invitational.
Truelove used her three days of competing in the Cougars' home natatorium at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center to her advantage, collecting top honors in two of the weekend's three diving competitions. On the opening day of competition, Truelove kicked off the weekend by beating her previous personal best in the 3-meter with an NCAA 'A' qualifying score of 366.45.
The London, Ontario native, set another NCAA 'A' mark in the 1-meter (270.85) to take fourth place on day two before excelling in her main event on the final day of competition. A two-time All-American in platform diving, Truelove topped Audra Egenwolf from No. 18 SMU to claim first place with an NCAA Championship `A' qualifying mark of 287.50.
This is Truelove's second career Diver of the Week accolade.
Truelove and fellow diver sophomore Julia Lonnegren are in preparation for their toughest fall meet, the Texas Invitational hosted by the University of Texas on Dec. 2-4.
