HOUSTON - For the second game in a row, the Cougars pulled off an overtime victory at Robertson Stadium. Houston improves to 8-2-1 and 3-0 in Conference USA.
Sami Sackos netted the gamewinner in the 96th minute of the game. Sackos and the Cougars rallied for an impressive gamewinner after defending their own net on a Colorado College corner kick. Sackos provided the initial knock forward to get the offense in motion. Two long passes to Lauri Byrne and then Katelyn Rhodes had the offense in a great counteracting opportunity.
Rhodes baited the goalkeeper to charge and when she did, Sackos streaked through the middle of the box and scored her fourth goal of the season.
"I'm really proud of the girls tonight," said head coach Susan Bush. "We have a lot of freshman playing and sometimes your worry about that as a coach in an overtime situation. But for the second game in a row, these girls came up huge in crunch time. I'm really impressed by the maturity level of those girls and also have to commend our veterans for their great play tonight as well."
Seven freshman or sophomores logged significant minutes in the game tonight, including redshirt freshman goalkeeper Cami Koski.
Koski kept the visitor's scoreboard empty for a fifth time this year with a season-high six saves. Koski has yet to allow a goal in C-USA play.
"Colorado College is a very quality program and this was a good win for us tonight. We need to keep up our focus and get ready for Sunday's game."
The Cougars face UTEP Sunday at 1 p.m.
