HEAD COACH Joe Curl
On the game:
"It was a really tough game. I know it took a lot out of me. Courtney Taylor took the game over. She played 36 minutes and scored 31 points, which is a career high. We have to fix rebounding and turnovers. If we don't get that fixed by Saturday, it won't be a pretty game. I am still in the moment but at the same time, I'm ready for the next game.
"I don't think we played that particularly well. In the first half, we were just throwing them the ball. Our goal was to have three or less at halftime. We concentrated on that a little more and that was part of the difference."
On Tulsa:
"Tulsa is a lot better than 0-7. Let's say they don't win another game, they're still capable of winning the conference tournament."
On Courtney Taylor:
"I am very proud of her for all that she has been through. Her coach had a heart attack on her a few years back, and she still led this basketball team. People have no idea what a team goes through besides the 40 minutes on the court. I'm very proud of her. She has scored 1,000 points and is poised to break the UH career double-double record very soon. Let's hurry up and break that record and pile on a lot more double-doubles. I wish we could stop the game and have streamers come down on the court because breaking records doesn't happen that often.
"She tries to get the most out of our players. She was a voted-in captain, and I'm very proud of her. She's on the verge of the double-double record, and that is very significant to me."
On the rotation:
"I was very conscious of the rotation today. If I had to give myself a grade, it'd be a C+ or a B. We made a decision to put four guards with one post to run a quick offense, running from post to corner. If we have to rotate all-bigs or all-smalls, we'll do that. I don't know if Courtney Taylor scores 31 if she has to play 38 minutes. Just to give her a 30 or 45 second breaks and get a drink of water is huge. We still have to do a better job in getting players rest. "
JUNIOR GUARD Courtney Taylor
On turning her game up a notch:
"I could tell by her (Larissa Williams) body language that she was elevating her game, so I did the same. She's the strongest rebounder on her team, and we had to focus on her and box out."
On the three point shot:
"I felt that one. I just had to let it go, and it was a turning point for our team."
On scoring 1,000 points:
"I'll probably realize it later. My mom told me about the upcoming double-double record but it's funny to me because I never came here hoping to break records. I just came here to play and let the game come to me. I'm not trying to go after the records. I'm proud of all I've accomplished, and I know my mom is too. It'll sink in later, I just love to play."
