For the second straight night, the Owls struck in the first inning, scoring two runs on back-to-back doubles from Gayhart and Friday and Savery's RBI-single.
The score remained that way until the fourth inning when Gayhart launched a three-run homer to right field.
Rice pushed its lead to 6-0 in fifth inning when Savery scored from second base following the Cougars' first miscue of the night..
One inning later, the Owls added three more runs, courtesy of Friday's RBI-bunt single and a two-run single from Savery.
In the eighth inning, Rice took advantage of a Cougar error, Aaron Luna's RBI-single and a sacrifice fly from Dodson for the final margin of victory.
