Soccer Loses 4-1 At Stephen F. Austin

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Despite taking 19 shots and nine corner kicks, the University of Houston soccer team dropped its second-straight match, a 4-1 loss to Stephen F. Austin, Friday at the SFA Intramural Complex.
Houston (3-4) had numerous chances throughout the game, holding decided advantages in both shots (19-13) and corner kicks (9-2). The Cougars also were whistled offsides nine times.
UH's lone score came in the 85th minute off the foot of Sophia Mundy (Katy, Texas/St. Pius X/Portland State). Mundy, who netted her third goal of the season, knocked it home after a give-and-go at the top of the box from Amie Brady (Houston, Texas/Katy HS). It was Brady's fourth assist in the past three contests.
Mundy and Sarah Fisher (Katy, Texas/Cypress Springs HS) each fired five shots at SFA `keeper Francesca Tierno. Tierno played the full 90 minutes, making eight saves.
After a scoreless first half, the Ladyjacks (4-3) opened up with a goal in the 46th minute. Amanda Alders tallied the first of her two goals on a breakaway down the left side. Lauren Fricks added a second goal 70 seconds later making the margin 2-0.
Alders added her second in the 67th minute, beating Lynn Baker (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg HS) one-on-one and placing it into the empty net. Mary Surkein scored SFA's fourth goal in the 78th minute.
Shelby Scott (Mesquite, Texas/North Mesquite HS) started the game for Houston, making three saves but giving up two goals in 51 minutes before being lifted for Baker. Scott took the loss, dropping her record to 3-4 on the season. Baker played the final 39 minutes, stopping two shots and giving up the second pair of goals.
The Cougars close out a season-long three-match road swing at UTSA Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
