Szanto Wins 200-Yard Breaststroke at Miami (Ohio) Invitational

AUSTIN and OXFORD, Ohio - University of Houston senior captain Szintia Szanto posted a time of 2:19.24 to win the 200-yard breaststroke Saturday during the final day of the Miami (Ohio) Invitational at Corwin Nixon Natatorium.
Szanto was not the only Cougar swimmer to perform well Saturday. Sophomore Andrea Pa'lmai finished third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.93, while freshman Lauren VanCleave earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.67.
The Cougars finished seventh of 11 teams after scoring 714.5 points during the three-day meet. Host Miami (Ohio) won the meet with 1873.5 points, while Truman State was second with 1452.5 points. Denison (1,200), Oakland (1,159.5), Cincinnati (1,044) and Emory (821) rounded out the Top Six team leaders.
On the diving side, senior captain Rachel Gitelson earned 217.40 points to finish fourth on the platform at the Texas Invitational. The Glendale, Ariz., native was the only Cougar to compete in that event.
The Cougars will now take nearly a month off before returning to action at 5 p.m., Dec. 30 at the Hawai'i Relay Meet in Honolulu, Hawai'i. While in Hawai'i, the Cougars also will meet South Dakota in an NCAA dual meet at 5 p.m., Jan. 3.
