WACO - The University of Houston soccer team fell to the Baylor Bears on Friday night, 1-0, in the season opener for both squads.
The scoreless tie was broken at the 68:37 mark in the second half, when Baylor freshman forward Amanda McGrath scored on an assist from junior forward Missy McConnell to put the Bears up, 1-0.
The Cougars had a chance to score the equalizer in the 88th minute but Jessica Green's shot was blocked on the line by defender Rose Zapata.
Both teams registered 14 shots on the evening. The Cougars were paced by Sophia Mundy with four shots. Houston keeper Stephanie Pucek snagged 4 saves playing all 90 minutes in goal.
Houston returns for their home opener at Robertson Stadium against Nicholls State. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
