HOUSTON - The Houston Cougars' women's volleyball team was back in action at the Athletics/Alumni Center Tuesday night where in-state rival Texas defeated the Cougars in three straight games (30-16, 30-21, 30-12).
For the Cougars, it was their fourth game in five days after playing tough matches against three of the top teams in the NCAA over the weekend where they defeated Maryland before falling to No. 14 Kansas State and No. 10 Cal.
The fatigue of playing such a tight, tough schedule showed in the Cougars' execution as the team struggled to get the offense going. As a team, Houston hit .000 and produced the lowest single-game outing (12) since the NCAA switched to the 30-point rally score system in 2001.
The Longhorns' sweep of the Cougars extended their winning streak to 12 straight games without a loss to open up the 2004 season.
Houston (1-3) will look to bounce back as they head off to UT-Arlington for a three-day tournament this weekend that includes matches with Arkansas-Little Rock, UT-Arlington and Indiana.
