The University of Houston women's basketball team officially begins practice at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, as they prepare to defend their Conference USA title from a year ago and face another daunting schedule in 2004-05.
The Lady Cougars will practice from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Oct. 16, and again from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17. Both practices will be open to the public.
"There is a sense of excitement and an energy heading into this season," said Joe Curl, who begins his seventh season at the helm of the Houston program. "There are a lot of unanswered questions, and we cannot wait to have them answered."
After two exhibition games on Nov. 3 and Nov. 13, Houston tips off the regular season with five straight home games at Hofheinz Pavilion, beginning with Wichita State on Nov. 19.
The Lady Cougars return three starters from last year's squad, which set school records for the most victories (28) and highest winning percentage (.875) en route to claiming both the Conference USA Regular Season and Tournament titles as well as a trip to "The Big Dance" for the first time in 12 years.
Leading Houston this season will be senior center Sancho Lyttle, a C-USA Preseason All- Conference selection as well as a selection to the 2005 Wade Watch List, and fellow senior Joann Overstreet.
