No. 23 Louisville blanks Cougar volleyball

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The University of Houston jumped out to an early lead in game one of their match against No. 23 Louisville Saturday night at Cardinal Arena in Louisville, Kentucky, but the Cardinals bounced back to take the game and sweep the match 30-26, 30-23, 30-27.
In game one the Cougars scored the first four points but Louisville came back to tie the game at nine. The game remained close from that point until the Cardinals outscored Houston 5-1 after tying it at 25 to take the game.
Houston drops to 8-17 for the season and 4-7 in Conference USA play while Louisville improves to 17-4 and 10-1 in conference.
Cinthia Piva's 12 kills and two aces led the Cougars, while Loure Dews added 10 kills. Monica Prince finished with 14 digs and setter Mirela Vasconcellos had 23 assists.
Houston will close out its home schedule this week hosting three games. Rice visits Hofheinz Pavilion Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. before the Cougars finish their C-USA schedule Friday and Saturday with East Carolina and Charlotte. Both weekend games begin at 7:30 p.m.
