UH Swimming & Diving Falls To Cross-town Rival Rice

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's swimming and diving team was defeated by Rice, 162-127, Friday in a NCAA dual meet at UH Natatorium.
The Owls won 13 of 16 events en route to their 11th straight victory over the Lady Cougars dating back to the 1993-94 season.
Houston senior diver won two events as she swept the one-meter and three-meter springboard diving events. Pakalina has won 42 of the 43 diving events in which she has competed and has been victorious in all 20 three-meter diving competitions during her collegiate career.
Junior Lucille Turpin was the only Lady Cougar swimmer to win an event as she placed first in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:38.01. Vicki Blocker and Jessica DeWitt finished in second and third place, respectively, in the 400-yard individual medley.
Freshman Stacy Williams continued her impressive first collegiate season with a second-place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.00. Rice's Kiana Taheri won the event with a time of 1:55.45.
Senior Falon Hopkins also had a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly for the Cougars with a time of 59.90 seconds. Elaine Lee of Rice won the event with a time of 57.73 seconds, and Jenny Voight of Rice was second with a time of 59.55 seconds.
Houston, which fell to 1-1 in dual meets this season, will host the University of Arkansas in a dual meet in the UH Natatorium at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
