Gontram arrives in Houston following a two-season stint with George Washington where she worked under Schoonmaker as an outfield and hitting coach and a year as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III William Paterson University.
Gontram follows Schoonmaker to Houston after joining the Revolutionaries in summer 2023. While in Washington, D.C., she tutored 12 All-Atlantic 10 players and two NFCA All-Region selections.
In her first year in the District, she helped push the GW offense to new heights as the team led the Atlantic 10 in batting average, scoring offense, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and fewest strikeouts. Numerous marks improved from the year prior, including batting average and on-base percentage rising by 52 points and slugging percentage increasing by 60 points.
Last season, Gontram coached outfielder Ashley Corpuz, the first player in program history to hit 15 homers and swipe 15 bases in the same season. Defensively, the Revolutionaries posted a .975 fielding percentage, which ranked 15th in the country, and the defense helped GW pitchers rank 25th in the nation with a 2.72 ERA while the offense averaged led the Atlantic 10 in three categories and finished 53rd nationally with 1.48 doubles per game.
Prior to joining GW, Gontram worked as assistant coach at William Paterson University in New Jersey. The team improved their win total by nearly 50 percent from the year prior with Gontram on staff while players earned four All-NJAC awards and an NFCA All-Region honor.
Again managing hitters and outfielders, Gontram guided WPU to improvements in every component of the team's slash as well as a 21 percent increase in runs scored and a program-record 99 stolen bases.
Prior to starting her coaching career, Gontram played collegiate softball for UNC Greensboro. Across six seasons with the Spartans, she posted a .242/.346/.559 slash including 53 homers and 150 RBIs. After hitting a program-record 19 homers and posting 51 RBIs in 2022, both of which led her conference, she was voted an All-SoCon Second-Team selection.
Gontram helped the Spartans capture five SoCon titles and finished her career ranked second in both program and SoCon history with 53 homers. Her 19 home runs in her final year of eligibility placed second in league history, and she currently sits in ninth among all-time SoCon players with 150 career RBIs.
