Jalen Wade joined the University of Houston Track & Field program in September 2023 as an assistant coach. He works primarily with the sprints group under legendary head coach Carl Lewis.
In this role, Wade has assisted in coaching elite athletes such as Shaun Maswanganyi and Louie Hinchliffe, both of whom represented their countries at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
During the 2025 season, Wade also assisted with the horizontal jumps, where every jumper under his guidance achieved personal best performances — reflecting his technical expertise, athlete development skills and commitment to excellence.
A former collegiate standout at Texas Southern, Wade competed in the 400m, 800m and 4x400m relay as a key member of the Tigers’ program.
He earned bronze medals in the 800m at the 2016 SWAC Indoor Championships and in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) at the 2015 SWAC Indoor Championships.
Wade was also part of the Texas Southern teams that captured the SWAC Indoor Championships in 2015 and 2016 and the Outdoor Championship in 2016, contributing to one of the most successful eras in program history.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Wade served in the U.S. Army as a Noncommissioned Officer and Physical Therapy Technician, where he developed a deep understanding of biomechanics, recovery, and athlete performance optimization. His military background instilled a standard of discipline, leadership, and resilience that carries over into his coaching style today.
Wade’s coaching philosophy centers on discipline, fundamentals, and athlete-first development. He strives to build complete athletes who excel on the track, in the classroom and in life.
